In the past two decades, biotechnology has modified several common food crops such as corn and soy to, for example, improve yield, nutrition, resistance to drought and insects, and other desirable qualities. As consumers grow more conscious about the types of foods they put in their bodies, some have asked about the role of biotechnology in food production and health.

ConAgra Foods uses only ingredients that meet strict criteria for safety and quality and comply with all regulatory requirements. We support science-based regulatory policies for crops and related ingredients that ensure the integrity of the food supply, as well as the protection of the environment. We do not prohibit biotech ingredients in our products when:

  • There is a reputable scientific consensus that the ingredients are safe
  • They are compatible with our product needs and distribution systems
  • They are permitted by regulatory authorities and do not require special labeling

Ultimately, consumers will decide what is acceptable in the marketplace based on the best science and public information available. We will continue to listen carefully to our customers and consumers on biotechnology and provide alternatives for those who demand products without biotechnology ingredients. Two choices are our Lightlife brand, which is manufactured using non-GMO soy seeds, and our organic foods, which also do not use biotech ingredients.
