History

In the 1940s, after World War II, Louis Stumberg, his father, and his brother decided to go into business doing something that none of the three knew anything about—Mexican food. They built a plant in San Antonio, Texas, where they packed frozen tamales and chili, and in the '60s, they began selling frozen dinners. Having met soldiers who enjoyed eating Mexican food during training in Texas, the Stumbergs knew their products had potential outside of the state, and they began to sell them nationally. The Patio brand name was inspired by the Patio Ranch in Hunt, Texas, which is still run by the Stumberg family today.
